Continue to Bethany Beyond the Jordan, where Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist. The area later became one of the earliest Christian pilgrimage sites, with ancient churches and caves used by monks. Continue to Anjara, where Jesus and his mother Mary are believed to have rested during their travels. Visit the Lady of the Mount Church. Then proceed to Umm Qais (Gadara), one of the ancient Decapolis cities, overlooking the Sea of Galilee and the Golan Heights. Continue to Madaba, the “City of Mosaics,” to see the 6th-century map of the Holy Land at St. George’s Church. Then visit Mount Nebo, where Moses viewed the Promised Land. End your day at the Dead Sea, the lowest point on Earth, to float and relax.
